Rachel Mackay is a multidisciplinary artist and designer working across film, installation and visual art. With a practice that is both independent and collaborative, her work merges spatial, sculptural and mixed-media techniques. Through her practice, Rachel is interested in exploring notions of theatricality, memory, and impermanence in both natural and fabricated environments. Her work plays with the dualities between space, site, form and materiality.
Rachel works in film as a production designer and art director alongside her personal artistic practice; creating spatial environments for music videos, short films and commercials. Grounded in the creation of visual narratives, she brings an artistic and sculptural approach to her work, which is inspired and informed by her personal art practice.
Rachel is also co-founder of Studio Rain, a Sydney-based collective who work at the intersection of art and architecture. The team create experimental installations, pavilions and environments.
